The technology includes four HDTV video formats, which differ both in
the actual resolution that the method of scanning the image.
1. The format HR.HDTV (Half Resolution High Definition TV) is 960x540, or
half of the definition FULL HD (see below) used by some television stations for
broadcast TV as a good compromise resolution / bandwidth request. Also being
an 16:9 upscaling on the TV FULL HD or HD READY occurs without distortion.
2. The 720p format, called HD READY (TVs that support it give the HD ready
logo, that is "ready for high definition"), has a total resolution of 921,600 pixels
(1280 x 720) with progressive scan, ie for each cycle of transmission of a frame
(50 or 60 Hz depending on the countries) is sent the entire framework of the
image. Each update involves all 720 lines and 921,600 pixels of the screen.
3. The 1080i has a resolution of 2,073,600 total pixels (1920 x 1080) with
interlaced scanning, or for each cycle is sent a semiquadro formed by
alternately sun odd or even lines of the image. Then each update involves 540
lines and 1,036,800 pixels.
4. The 1080p format, commonly called FULL HD, is the newest of the three and
is equivalent to the version with the progressive scan 1080i, for which each
update involves all 1080 and 2,073,600 lines of pixels on the screen.
For comparison, the films turn to 24 frames per second (film) with the use of a
shutter with two blades that, with a frequency double of 48 cycles per second, in
the sections covering screening and the steps between one frame and another.
The cameras shooting electronic (or digital) instead of cycles were 25 frames per
second. TV stations broadcast in traditional interlaced scanning 25 frames per
second for PAL and 30 for the NTSC system, the latter has a resolution lower
than the previous year.
The quality of both formats HD ready is linked, as well as subjective
considerations (preferably towards greater stability or a higher resolution), the
contents of the broadcast. The scenes with fast movements more frequent and
may benefit from more rapid upgrade of the 720p format, while the static scene
can take advantage of the greater wealth of detail of 1080i. In fact, the
progressive system eliminates the shortcomings of a still image, particularly at
the stage of assembly।
